Nabra Al Busaidi, Executive Director of Young Arab Leaders was part of the seasoned panel of judges at the 1st Ibtikar Competition, organized by the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT).

As part of HCT Vice Chancellor’s initiatives for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among students, the HCT Faculty of Business organized the inaugural ‘Ibtikar Competition’ – a business innovation competition that provides a platform for students from various HCT academic Faculties to take the knowledge gained in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship course out for a spin and come up with ideas that address real-life challenges.

Inspired by the ‘Shark Tank’ style entrepreneurship competition, The HCT-Sharjah Women’s campus (SJW) hosted this system-wide event, which saw a total of 21 vibrant teams compete, pitching their novel innovations in front of a panel of five independent, external and seasoned judges, including YAL Executive Director, Nabra Al Busaidi.

Dr. Abdullatif Al Shamsi, HCT Vice Chancellor inaugurated the event with motivational words of encouragement, supporting student innovation, and imparted valuable insights on creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem at HCT.

The much-awaited event was also graced by the presence of the board of directors and senior management, Dr. Ayesha Abdulla, Executive Dean of the Business Division; Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashmi, SJW Director, Dr. Abdulla Al Suwaiji, Director of Sharjah Men’s campus; and Mr. Ali Al Mansoori, HCT DVC Campus Operations.

The first place Innovation Gold Award went to the ‘New Look Airport Lounge’ project from the HCT-Abu Dhabi Men’s campus, while the second place was claimed by a Hybrid Car project from the HCT-Sharjah Men’s Campus, and the third spot was awarded to ‘Car Parts’ from Ras Al-Khaimah Men’s campus.

The values and objectives of this competition resonate well with YAL’s goals of fostering innovation among Arab youth, and YAL Executive Director, Nabra Al Busaidi believes in encouraging young students to implement creative ideas through innovation and business acumen, to expand their knowledge horizon.
