 Alf YadAlf Yad, a Cayman Islands registered limited partnership, is a joint venture between the UAE Chapter of Young Arab Leaders and Daman Investments PSC. Both of these organizations are established leaders in their respective fields whose combined strengths add enormous synergies to the Alf Yad value proposition.
The Alf Yad initiative consists of 10 venture capital funds that will be launched in succession. Each Alf Yad fund will raise and deploy AED 100 million to promising investment targets across the region. By 2015, Alf Yad will endeavour to raise and deploy AED 1 billion in venture capital investments throughout the region. The life of each fund will be 5 calendar years beginning at the Closing Date, subject to a maximum of 10 years. The fund will invest in businesses that demonstrate the potential for rapid sustainable growth and the ability to realize the required rate of return, with an annualized target IRR of 30%.
Alf Yad is the first venture capital management company of its kind to be launched in the Middle East. With a unique focus of utilizing Arab businesses as a platform to maximize investor returns, Alf Yad will not only profit from the new Arab Economy but contribute to it as well.
Alf Yad literally means “one thousand hands” in Arabic. The premise behind the name is that over the course of ten years, Alf Yad’s 1000 investors will have directly contributed towards the Arab Economy and shall constitute the “one thousand hands” that will invest capital and enable privately held Arab businesses to flourish.
Daman will act as Investment Manager of Alf Yad, and hence carry out all regulated activities as well as valuation exercises on behalf of Alf Yad.
Members of both Daman and YAL- UAE will serve on both the Alf Yad Board and the Fund Investment Committee.
